“Ride for a child” route, dates, and roads to be travelled.

Our 6th annual motor bike ride charity event: Sunday 9th February 2025 to Sunday 2nd March 2025

“Doctors for children drive”

Purpose: The 2025 “Ride for a Child” 7000km Charity motorbike ride around South Africa is to “recruit, as a matter of speech” volunteer private General Practitioners in every town we travel through on our annual motorbike ride as part of our “Doctor’s for children” drive. Each volunteer General Practitioner that joins our “Doctors for Children” drive will be requested to assist 2 Children per year on a Pro Bona basis we at Pediatric Care Africa refer to them, in the event of us receiving a request for assistance of a sick child in their area/suburb/town. The idea is to create the facility and have a further +300 additional under privileged South African children per year consult a Private General Practitioner, for the purpose of diagnosis and a prescription for medicine.  If the child requires more than just a physical examination to enable the Volunteer General Practitioner to make a diagnosis, we at Pediatric Care Africa arrange/pay for the medication the child is prescribed by the volunteer GP and the same for any lab tests/X rays the child must receive to facilitate a diagnosis.

Furthermore, it is important to generate funds for surgeries, medical treatment and baby food/milk for underprivileged children requiring surgeries, medical treatment or are in food distress. Our continuous fundraising efforts enable us to pay for the medical expenses and surgeries of under privileged children as Doctor’s don’t save life’s, money does

It is entirely up to every individual person or Motor cycle Club/group to decide on how to help us to raise funds for children’s surgeries and medical treatment during this ride. Please get involved as without you there is no us….

Plan: We ask that every motorcycle club/group in the towns we travel through on our route, speak to his/her/their local General Practitioner, and explain to them what we do, who we are and if they may be interested in becoming a volunteer Doctor with Pediatric care Africa as explained above. Should the Doctor be interested, then to please make an appointment for Dr André Hattingh our founder and CEO to meet with them and answer any questions they may have on the day we travel through your town.

“Mandy Pieters” our event planner and coordinator, will have the dates and estimated times we will be traveling through every town we will be passing through on our route, and is the person of contact if for example a “prospective volunteer Doctor” wish to meet us in person or a group wish to ride with us for a bit. Mandy can be reached at: events@pediatriccareafrica.org or her WhatsApp no is 072 034 0544

Many clubs or groups have members that are Doctors, so please speak to them as there are literally thousands of children in our Country that need to see a doctor, but very simply put cannot afford the consultation or the medicine due to no fault of theirs.

We plead with participating Motor bike clubs, groups, and individual riders to for example arrange a fundraising event for the benefit of Pediatric Care Africa during the ride to assist us in our fundraising efforts.

It is entirely up to every individual or Motor cycle Club/group to decide on how to help us raise funds for children’s surgeries and medical treatment, should you find what we do a worthwhile cause and worthy of your support.

We also ask Companies to sponsor Dr Hattingh for each km he completes of the route on his motorcycle.

Absolutely every child deserves to have access to proper and professional medical care.

Over the years, supporters of our “Ride for a Child” annual charity motorbike ride, has made it possible for us to assist dozens of children with surgeries, hundreds of persons received free medical care through our medical outreach programs, you helped us and made it possible to import a 40ft container full of medical equipment from the UK, resulting in dozens of children receiving wheelchairs, specialist buggies for children with CP related disabilities and assisted us to help establish a World class standard paediatric surgical ward and a paediatric burns ward, to mention but a few issues the biker community in South Africa has assisted us in achieving over the past 7 years. Respect and a huge thank you…!

Distance 7000km

Duration 22 days

Start date: Sunday 9th February 2025 Oudtshoorn, Western Cape

End date: 2nd March 2025 Oudtshoorn Western Cape

The route will reach the most Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern points of South Africa that is accessible by road bike, by us travelling all around the borders of South Africa, we draw an imaginary circle around the children in South Africa, to show them that we care.

Rider for Pediatric care Africa: Dr J. André Hattingh, Founder and Chairman of Pediatric care Africa on a Road King Harley Davidson.

On reaching Upington on this 6th “Ride for a child” charity motorbike ride, Dr Andre would have ridden his Road King Harley Davidson the equivalent of the entire circumference of the earth which is 40 075km to raise funds for children’s surgeries and on completion of the 6th “ride for a child” a total distance of 42000km would have been travelled to benefit our sick children.

Rider/s will be accompanied by a support vehicle carrying a spare motorcycle for Dr André in the event of a breakdown.

Companies and individuals are invited to sponsor Dr André Hattingh for each 1 Kilometre completed, or 10 km’s completed, or 100 km’s completed by motorbike. Options: R1 per km, R2 per km or R5 per km completed by our Pediatric Care Africa rider or a straight once off donation of any amount. (Sponsorship documents available)

In the event of Dr André having an incident or is forced to abandon the charity drive and is not able to continue, sponsors will only pay for the actual kilometres travelled before abandoning the round-trip effort. The odometer reading and a photo of the odometer will be taken on the spot where the ride is abandoned.

In the event of a mishap with the Road King Harley Davidson during the ride, Dr Hattingh will switch to a spare motorbike to enable him to complete the charity motorbike ride. The odometers of both bikes will be taken at the point of switch over.

Guest riders joining us on route are very welcome and are asked to also obtain sponsors for every kilometre they travel with us and donate the funds generated to Pediatric care Africa in aid of surgeries and medical treatment. All guest riders regardless of distance travelled qualify to purchase a 2025 Ride for a child badge, as proof of participation.

Our rider’s odometer reading will be taken down and photographed by a nominated party and two witnesses at the start and at the end of the charity drive and photos of the odometer will be taken on both occasions, to verify distance travelled.

Note: The route may change on short notice and alternative routes may be taken in the event of unrest, natural disasters or any reason making a specific part of the route unsafe for road users.
