A new surgical unit is being born!!!
Dr Elliot Motloung a Pediatric surgeon now based in Nelspruit, has launched the first paediatric surgical ward in Mpumalanga at Rob Ferreira Hospital.
We desperately need such a facility in Mpumalanga, and we offered to help to develop the new Pead surgical unit that will consist of a Pre admittance clinic/examination area, a reception, 2 burn wards that will be used for children with serous burn wounds of over 30% of their body and 7 general surgical wards, in total it will house 30 Pediatric surgical patients when opened.
Dr Motloung and his team has already assisted us in a number of major surgeries in the last few weeks, and one surgery in particular was the first ever done in Mpumalanga
After days of back breaking work to prep the walls and doors etc for painting, repairing toilets and so on, and then this weekend with the help of a number of volunteers, we painted the first half of the unit and it looks beautiful!!
We have super talented artists that is going to paint child friendly murals on the walls and if we stay on schedule, Dr Motloung should be able to open this new unit in about 3 weeks or so…?
Prominent Paints SA of Nelspruit donated no less than 120lt top quality Hospital grade paint and Tamar Mason a renowned artist donated 10lt special yellow paint to paint the nurses station a nice happy sunshine colour, and last but certainly not least, White River Dialysis Inc donated R5000-00 for door paint, brushes etc.
We at Pediatric Care Africa donated office furniture for the new consulting rooms and waiting room.
To all the volunteers, that spend so much time assisting us with this very exciting and deserving project so far, we thank you from our hearts as without you all, noting would have been possible….. and to Micheal of Panarottis Family in Nelspruit who blessed us with delicious pizza and soft drinks.
50% to go and then the murals……I am very excited!
