Mandela day at its best!!!
Mandela day at its best!!
Mandela weekend and we have lots of food parcels to hand out to needy families, and each child receives a beautiful “Lucky packet” who in many cases is bigger than the child receiving it….
Accompanied by Carel du Preez, Francois Kleinhans and Cassandra Jacobs of the Pumas rugby team we sat of to Magalela informal settlement as our first stop to distribute grocery hampers donated by Pick n Pay Family White River to 68 families and hand out beautifully made “Lucky packets” painstakingly packed by Joyce our treasurer.
With the help of the Puma rugby players, we made light work of handing out the heavy grocery hampers, maize meal, cool drinks and packets of frozen chicken and soon we were on our way to our next stop in Haasbroek in White River.
The kids in Haasbroek was very excited to learn that rugby players are handing out their goodies instead of the usual “grumpy” Doctor.
Also accompanying us was Gerrit, Martin and Clifton of Pick n Pay White River and Erika and Lee of Pediatric care Africa, who all had a “job to do” from handing out face masks to people without to helping to offload.
After receiving lots of hugs from the children and admiring a “Tannie’s” pet Chinchilla, we waved goodbye as our next stop was Katoen and upper Mshlozi.
Every boy in Katoen knowns who the Pumas are and soon they were passing a rugby ball around. We only had a flat rugby ball, but luckily nobody complained…
At Katoen, the Mandela weekend activities included our “Children and their Pets” programme in conjunction with Lowveld Vet White River who organized the Rabies injections, deworming and defleaing of all the children’s pets.
So many persons made this a great success and we can not thank you enough for your effort, your time and especially your kindness…
We are already looking forward to the next Mandela day activities…
“In all this world, there is nothing so beautiful as a happy child”.
