Our final surgical procedure for 2024

Our final surgical procedure for 2024

A young boy was referred to us with Ankyloglossia a condition present at birth that restricts the tongue’s range of motion, after his Mom battled for almost 3 years to get help.

We took him to be examined by Dr Smook a renowned ENT specialist in Nelspruit, and he referred the boy to Laurette Lemmer, an audiologist at MediClinic Nelspruit, and finally to Dr Madziha a private Plastic Surgeon in Nelspruit, and she recommended a frenotomy to clip the boy’s lingual frenulum in theatre.

With some speech therapy this young boy will speak normally, offering him a normal life without a speech impediment.

In the meantime we took a 3 year old girl with Cerebral palsy to see Dr Anso Killian in De Rust Western Cape, to establish her exact medical and physical needs as she will be one of the 2 children we are going to collect funds for during our first “Donkey’s Delivering D!reams” 500km donkey cart ride starting on the 1st of April 2025.

The aim is to buy her a buggy which will dramatically improve her quality of life, as she will be able to view the world from a upright position instead of her current restrictive prone and supine positions and it will afford her much more mobility and freedom to venture out to the shops or garden with her family.

Pediatric Care Africa is closing for the festive season on the 13th December 2024 and will reopen on the 6th of January 2025.
