Teenage girl receives much needed surgery!!!!
Much needed ear surgery!!!
After a number of unexpected delays this bright 14 year old girl received her very needed tympanomastoidectomy.
A tympanomastoidectomy is a combination surgical procedure used to treat chronic ear infections and cholesteatomas. It pairs a tympanoplasty (repairing the eardrum and tiny middle ear bones) with mastoidectomy (removing infected or abnormal tissue from the mastoid bone behind the ear).
This rather complicated and expensive surgery, was preceded with a full hearing test from Laurette Lemmer audiology at Medi Clinic Nelspruit and a MRI scan of her ear made possible by Dr’s Van Rensburg & partners at Medi Clinic Nelspruit and we can not thank you enough for your generous and much appreciated assistance.
Her anaesthetics was performed and provided by Nelanest Anaesthetic Association and her surgery was performed by Dr Smook, a very well known ENT in Nelspruit and all we can say is thank you very much once again for coming to the assistance of one of our young patients.
Her surgery was performed at the Busamed Lowveld Private Hospital and was made possible by the very generous financial contribution of Crossing Nelspruit, the centre that is the #myheartbeat of Nelspruit, that continues to supports Pediatric Care Africa and the on-going nutritional and healthcare outreaches done by Dr Andre Hattingh, the Pediatric Care Africa Team and the many medical professionals and volunteers involved.
We are very happy that this young girl received the surgery she needed.
