Charity Golf Day at White River Country Club!

Friday the 5th November we had our charity golf day at White River Country Club and what a absolute success it was.

With 112 golfers playing on an immaculate golf course in perfect albeit hot weather, the teams pulled out all stops and produced some exciting golf and true to form, mother nature produced a late afternoon thunderstorm and lightning that made us all scurry for cover and safety. 20 mins later the players that still had to finish was back on the course finishing their game.

“Cristiano”, who is only 11 years old and the youngest player of the day, gave some of the “older” hands a run for their money, as this young man can play golf like a pro and he was our Pediatric Care Africa “ Golf Mascot” for the day. Thank you Christiano!

We had two lady teams playing a great game of golf. I am not sure how to write this without landing myself in trouble, as I can not use words like “mature” or “seasoned” when writing about a ladies team. The ladies teams was an absolute pleasure to be around and have on the golf course. Great sense of humour, awesome sports and I cannot imagine a golf day without them.

Our main sponsor – The Lowveld Motors group of Audi & Volkswagen dealerships namely Audi Centre Mbombela, Volkswagen Highlands, Palm Motors & Alan Hudson Motors had a big role in our Pediatric Care Africa Charity Golf day and displayed some of their newest vehicles on the golf course for the day, and I must admit that I fell in love with one of the new Audi’s on display, and planning to write a long and serious letter to Father Christmas about it.

“Adele” the Dealer Principal of Audi in Nelspruit, deserves a special mention and thank you as she greatly assisted and guided Lee, our corporate fundraiser responsible for arranging the charity golf day with the organization of this very successful day. Thank you very much Adele.

As the only “non-golfer” on the day, I heard golf terminology that I had absolutely no idee what it could possibly mean, luckily for me “Lee” could answer everyone’s questions and made sure everyone understood the rules. I mean “really” folks what does “Better ball, Stableford and Scramble drive mean”……😄

We made sure our Golfers wouldn’t go hungry and Trinchados kept everyone well fed with a delicious Prego for lunch and Portuguese chicken for dinner. A well fed golfer is a happy golfer I was told….

After dinner and once everyone had soothed their thirsts appropriately, we had a prize giving with some great prizes ranging from 7 days accommodation at a beautiful lodge to Rooikat liquor hampers and many more. Thanks to Rehann Coetzee from myLOWVELD.net – our MC for the evening – for doing all the talking and entertained us.

And finally we got to the main fundraising event of the evening, in which there were a number of exciting items on auction ranging from Nguni skins, a beautiful driftwood limited edition sculpture by Tony Fredriksson, an EVO electric bike and a solid bronze statue by Jean Meintjies of Richard Hugh MCcaw

To thank everyone for a day like this will take pages of writing but I can not end without thanking Lee Melman our Corporate fundraiser who arranged this very enjoyable and successful golf day and to all the golf players who came out in force to support us and therewith the children that we serve and assist.
