Massive cold front and 450 blankets!!
Massive cold front and 450 blankets!!
With a massive cold front approaching we handed out whatever baby blankets we had available, that we received from Marilyn Bassin of the Boikanyo, The Dion Herson Foundation and managed to help around 90 smaller children with protection against the extreme cold approaching, thank you very much Marilyn. We had a huge shortage of blankets for the bigger kids and their parents and just this morning we received a absolute life saving donation of 450 blankets from GB2C in Nelspruit.
With no time to loose we went directly from Valencia where we collected the blankets, to our first stop at Magalela informal settlement and handed out blankets to the families known to us that had none or too few blankets to keep warm. After Magalela we went on to Brondal to find that 6 or so shacks had burned down and the occupants had nothing left and could save none of their belongings. A big man that lost his house and all his earthly goods in the shack fire, cried when we handed him and his family 2 blankets each. We will ensure that the persons that lost their huts in the fire receive enough food.
With a few blankets left we went to a place we call “the farm” where 9 Afrikaans families lives and we made sure that everyone there had 2 blankets each against the cold.
Thanks to GB2C we managed to hand out 450 high quality brand new blankets to families in our community today.
The oldest blanket recipient is 85 and the youngest is a mere 3 days old and her first day home from Hospital today. As night falls all blankets are distributed.
GIVING BACK 2 our COMMUNICTY (GB2C), that was started by Crossing Nelspruit during the centre’s 16th Birthday in October last year. Several local businesses form part of GB2C including BUCO South Africa, the Tom le Roux Family, the Omar Family, Caltex Mpumalanga North, Valencia Wholesalers, Valencia – The Home Of VBike, Crossing SuperSpar Nelspruit and the Visagie Groep amongst others.
Thank you and stay warm…..
