Successful Medical Outreach!

It was so hot, that our digital ear & forehead thermometers displayed error codes and we had to revert to more traditional thermometers to take patients temperatures with. On Saturday the 16th September we held a medical and dental outreach at the new ASM clinic in Msholozi.

Despite the heat a group of volunteer Doctors, Dentists, Nursing sisters, Physio’s, Pharmacists and non-medical volunteers joined us on our very first medical outreach at the new ASM Clinic in Msholozi.

It was a great success and a record 50 teeth was extracted during the outreach by 4 dentists from Nelspruit Dental Practice and 38 medical patients was seen by our Doctors.

A number of Children with a low BMI and malnutrition was identified, and they all received Genesis Nutritional Products (Genesis high Protein food supplements), and will receive Genesis every month for 6 months and will be re-evaluated then.

Prescribed OTC medication was dispensed from our mobile pharmacy, and all scheduled and prescribed medications was purchased from Arrie Nel Pharmacy and given to the ASM Clinic dispensing nursing sister to hand it out to the patients and explained is use to every patient thoroughly.

Every patient received a 5kg precooked porridge, sanitary pads for female patients, a freshly made hotdog, cooldrinks, a packet of chips and a delicious fresh pear, to spoil them a little.

The only reason our medical outreaches are possible is due not only to the volunteers that accompany us, but due to the generous and continuous donations we receive from Crossing Nelspruit in the form of 5kg bag of precooked fortified porridge and Genesis/OUTsurance who very generously supply us with Genesis high Protein food supplements which is a top source of vitamins and minerals.

Every one that helped is truly a hero as you helped to give vulnerable people a much better quality of life.
